A Boutique Life Design Market

Market display at A Boutique Life Design Market

It was my first time attending/being part of A Boutique Life Design Market yesterday, and one of the questions we were asked on our feedback forms was “Did we meet our business objectives?”

At first I thought only in terms of $$.  I did make some sales on the day, but I had thought it might be possible to make more.  It was a bit patchy, but still worth getting out of bed for!

Then I thought:

  • My product was exposed to a thousand new people (I think)
  • I handed out lots of business cards
  • I met lots of nice stallholders
  • I reconnected with a couple of old customers
  • I realised my display wasn’t working so I changed it around at lunch time (when things got quiet)
  • I learned more about doing markets!

Yes, I think I met my business objectives for being part of the market.  I was really happy to be part of it, and hope to be part of it again at some stage.

New jewellery tags

OldCards

These were the “old” tags I used for my jewellery.  They worked well.  I used Moo to create the tags, and the quality was perfect for that job.

When I went to make them again, they had taken this particular way of making mini text cards out of their range!  I couldn’t even re-order the cards, everything had changed.

Oh no, what to do?

It took me a long time to come up with this new style of Mini Card (see below).  On one side is a pattern, and next time I think I will use my own design.  On the other side is my business name, people can use that to search for me on the internet.

What I really like about the new design is that I’ll use the red cards for my Italian glass range, and the blue cards for my Recycled glass range.  I think they’ll work well.

On my walk this morning….

Update-Morning

  1. I am looking forward to doing A Boutique Design Life Market on Sunday.
  2. I am pleased that the exhibition at Gallery M went well in the end.  I wasn’t sure if I would get all of that work finished.
  3. I am crocheting a blanket!  I’ll show you when it gets a bit more interesting.
  4. I am loving the new morning walk I have found: down to the river, back through some wetlands, and then down a road where the dog can go off leash.  Perfect.
  5. I am applying for all sorts of different markets in and around Adelaide. Stay tuned for details.
  6. I am happy to be living in Murray Bridge.  It ticks so many boxes: close to family, close to Adelaide, very easy living.
  7. I am thrilled with the new swing tags for my jewellery.  I’ll show you soon.
  8. I am feeling a bit disorganised.  Time to start a list!
  9. I am not sure what to start reading.  I put several books on hold at the library and they have all come in at the same time!  Still Alice?  Kill Order?  Useful?
  10. I am content.

Some Family Time

Monarto2 Update-Monarto
We have had family visiting for a couple of days, it has been lovely!

We went to Monarto Zoo with my brother (Paul) and his partner (Bea) yesterday, and the kids loved it (well, so did the adults)!  If you have not been to Monarto before, it’s well worth the drive and the entry fee.  The guides/rangers are excellent, and really made the trip interesting.

Then it was home to cook a roast!  Mum and dad were over, so it was full on family time!  I loved every minute of it to be honest, I’ve been craving family time for a long time.  It was like a late Christmas/early Easter catch up for us all.

Can’t wait to do it all again. The house feels very quiet today!

Thank you!

Display of jewellery made from recycled Banrock Station wine bottles!

Tomorrow I pack up my jewellery from the Resonate exhibition that was held at Gallery M.  I’d just like to take a moment to say some thank you’s:

  • Steven Skillitzi for thinking about the glass artists at T’Arts when he pitched his exhibition to Gallery M.  Thanks Steven and congratulations to you on your amazing exhibition!
  • Sheryl Glassmith, Cindy Durant and Ivana DiStasio for being part of this exhibition.  I thought our work looked pretty amazing together.  Thank you for being such lovely people to work with.
  • Gallery M for displaying our work so beautifully.  One of the best galleries in Adelaide in terms of light/design, it’s always a pleasure to have my work on display there.  Thanks for taking the time to display my work to such great effect.
  • Everyone who went to the opening, and who visited while the exhibition was on.  We all hope you enjoyed the work, that it made you think a little bit, made you happy or even made you wonder!  Art comes in all shapes and sizes, and that was very true of our exhibitions.
  • To everyone who bought a piece of work from the exhibition, especially to those who bought my work, but also on behalf of the other artists.  We thank you very much.  Without you, we don’t get to do this!
  • To my family for supporting me when things got particularly crazy getting ready for the exhibition.  Our move to Murray Bridge, while awesome, happened at a tricky time, and I wasn’t sure if I would even get this work finished.  I’m glad you helped me by giving me the time to work.

I will bring the remaining jewellery to A Boutique Design Life Market on March 15 for those who might have missed out on seeing it in person.

Peroni Green

Handmade glass beads, made from a Peroni bottle

I made this set for a customer recently.  The beads were made from a Peroni beer bottle.  I have been loving the Peroni green colour.  Here is what the customer had to say:

Didn’t arrive until yesterday but WOW, it was worth waiting for.  Looks even better than the photos!  Just love the set. And thank you for my extra set of earrings.”

My pleasure!

Prototypes and Persistence and Patience

Update-Proto

This is version 4.0 of this necklace!  If you click here, you’ll see where it all started.  It took a bit of persistence to get to the finished result, but we got there, and I’m really grateful for the patience that the customer had with me as I tweaked the design to get it just right for her (Thanks Jackie)!  This necklace is so, so pretty, and I can’t wait to make some more!

A Boutique Life Design Market – March 15

ABL

I’m excited to be part of this upcoming market in Belair.  It runs from 10 until 4.

I have a special offer as part of the show bag that they are selling on the day, and that is “Buy a necklace, and get a pair of earrings for free.”  Included in the show bag are a range of other offers from other people selling at the market, definitely worth checking out!

Hope to see you there.
