Colour of the Month – Green

I hope you have enjoyed this Green Month so far!  I didn’t realise until I started writing these posts that I had kept the jewellery very green.  Usually I add some contrasting colour, just to show how colours interact.  But, the “complementary” colour to green on the colour wheel is red, and you know what happens when you put green and red together in jewellery?  You get Christmas pieces!  So, yeah, everything is green.

I made this mixed bead necklace with several shades of green, and I actually like how it turned out.  For those who like things to match, I also made the bracelet.

Colour of the Month – Green

Well, it’s better late than never around here at the moment!  I’m slowly catching up on everything (I think)!

I just sent the newsletter to my subscribers.  Did you get it?  Did you want to see it?  Just click on the subscribe link and add your email address and I’ll make sure to get it to you.

So November is all about the colour green.  The series will also run into December.  And then I’ll start the next colour of the month in January.  OK?

Green is a pretty frustrating colour to work with in glass.  I don’t know what they have done to it to make it that way, but let’s just say it’s a very tricky colour, and it’s very difficult to create nice patterns with the glass.  I had actually planned a different range of work, but when I went to make the beads the glass was not playing nicely!

Er, so…I made some necklaces like the ones below with very simple round beads.  I’m actually really pleased with how they turned out.  There are so many shades of green.  I have etched the beads on the top necklaces, and left them shiny on the other.  Which version do you prefer?

Purple Cockatoo

Purple Cockatoo Gallery is a little gallery in Norwood, owned by Ivana DiStasio.  I have known Ivana for many years now, since joining T’Arts.  She is another glass artist, working her magic with fused glass.

I should show you some of her work:

Ivana recently had exciting news…she has opened a gallery in Norwood.  It’s such a great location, and I am wishing her ALL THE BEST!  She recently posted this photo of how she is displaying my work on Facebook, which I loved.

Back on track…

Actually, I’m trying really hard to get back on track, but my torch was out out action for over a week, so I’m actually way behind where I am supposed to be!

I have started making beads for the next colour of the month series, but I have not finished, so I don’t have anything new to show you.  Not yet anyway.  But by next week I should (fingers crossed) be back on track.  By next week I should have my newsletter out too.

In the meantime, I have a photograph of a necklace that is heading to T’Arts tomorrow.  It is part of my colour wheel series, but not one that I have listed online (yet).

Hope things are tracking well for you.

Colour of the Month – Cobalt Blue

I hope you have enjoyed the posts about Cobalt so far!  Just to recap:

And this week’s post is all about contrasting colours.  Opposite cobalt on the colour wheel is a yellowy-orangey colour.  I tried making beads with this colour glass, but when I put them with the blue beads, it just looked too odd.  So, I tried a slightly different shade of yellow, a mustardy colour, and I think the result is a lot more pleasing.

The pictures below will take you to my online shop.  There have been a few changes in the shop, which I will explain quickly here, and will then do a post about the changes in more detail.  Essentially, I am now using my website shop as a place to buy the Colour of the Month ranges of jewellery.  The items will be listed as one-off pieces.  All other jewellery (recycled and Italian glass), will still be available on Etsy.

Next week I will share some cute earrings that will work with all of the necklaces I have made.

#makeforgood

Have you heard about the #makeforgood campaign?

It’s being run by Etsy Australia, and it goes a bit like this:

The #makeforgood collection is a project powered by Australian Etsy sellers and in support of Plan International’s Because I Am A Girl campaign. 20% of the sale price of certain products will be donated to Plan’s Because I Am A Girl Campaign. All funds raised will go towards supporting projects that help promote the equal rights of all children, helping lift girls around the world – and their entire communities – out of poverty. To learn more about this project go to etsy.me/makeforgood.

I loved the concept of this campaign.  I think it’s important for my children to understand that in 2015 we are living in a very lucky country….but not everyone in the world gets to live so easily.  It’s easy to talk the talk, but I felt like I also needed to do something about it.  So, I have listed 2 products in my Etsy shop that will hopefully raise some much needed money for this project.

Both items are made from a Skyy Vodka bottle.  The beads have been decorated with fine silver wire, which fits with the theme of the project “Silver Linings”.

I think it’s a great cause, and I hope you have a look at all of the other wonderful products on Etsy that are also supporting it.  You can simply search for “makeforgood” when you get to Etsy.

I’ve included photographs here with links to the products, if you are interested in purchasing any of them (through Etsy), 20% of the sale price will be donated to the project.
