Thanks to everyone who has visited, or who plans to visit, my SALA exhibitions.  They were both officially launched over the weekend, and it was lovely to see some friendly faces at each event (and some red stickers too)!

In case you are wondering where the exhibitions are, here are the details:

Today was a bit of a quiet day in the studio, as one of my children was home from school, and I was struggling to get motivated for my new projects!

New things

One thing I love about doing SALA exhibitions (South Australian Living Artists) is the opportunity to try new things!  This time I am involved in 2 exhibitions, and they have both challenged me in different ways.  Here is a sneak peek of some new beads…

After a lovely holiday with my family, I am back in my studio this week, finishing off all of the beads and jewellery that I need for the 2 SALA exhibitions that I am involved in this year.

  • “Inexclusive” is part of a group exhibition at Cats in the Loft gallery in Port Adelaide.  I have loved and hated the freedom of this exhibition.  I have had so many ideas, and I’ve had to work really hard to narrow down what I wanted to do.  I am installing this exhibition on Friday, ready for the opening on Sunday at 3.00pm.
  • “Chroma” is part of a group exhibition at Kuoni Creative in Blackwood.  The work I have ended up making for this exhibition is really colourful, and I can’t wait to show you bits and pieces from the exhibition.

I love SALA, and I am always grateful to everyone involved in creating opportunities like this for artists to make new work and get themselves out there!

SALA open studio

I have some exciting news.  I will be at the Cats in the Loft gallery on Saturday August 13 from 11am until 2pm.  Well, that’s not the exciting news, the best part is that I’ll have all of my beads, and a stack of key-chains, and some wire, and some pliers there too, and together we can have some fun making beaded key-chains!  Click this link for more details.

No need to book in.  And whatever you make is yours to keep.  All I am asking for all this fun is a gold coin donation.  100% of all money donated will go to the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME).

“AIME is a dynamic educational program that is proven to support Indigenous students through high school and into university, employment or further education at the same rate as all Australian students. AIME gives Indigenous students the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to grow and succeed.”

Here are a couple of key-chains that I made.

Prototypes

I am working on some new work as part of the SALA exhibition at Kuoni Creative.  I have in mind what I would like to make, I have drawn some designs on paper….and now I have a prototype.

I’ll spend some time pondering if this is the right direction for this work before I make any more.  I’ll probably try a few different things with these beads before I’ll know for sure.  I’ll be photographing along the way so I can go back to my first ideas.  I need to commit soon…the deadline for delivery is very soon.

Something new…

I’m working on a new range of jewellery for Kirra Galleries Flame on 2016.  The exhibition will run from September 8 until October 8 at the gallery in Federation Square, Melbourne.

This work has been inspired by the plight of the Great Barrier Reef.  I’ll tell you more about it closer to the date, but for now, here is a necklace made from a wine bottle, where I have “added” colour to the clear glass.

Hi there!  It’s winter solstice!  It’s almost my favourite day of the year!  I love winter solstice because I know from here on in it’s all longer days and warmer weather!  Well, soon enough it will be.  Yay!

I’ve been busy getting ready for the Etsy market on Saturday.  This will be held at Flinders Street Market in Adelaide from 10am until 3pm.  I look forward to seeing you there, if you get a chance to go.

I’m also busy working on my SALA exhibitions.  They are both really different, and I am enjoying the process of putting both of them together.  I’ll share more details as the time gets closer.  They both run throughout August.

The special discount in my Etsy shop is available until 30 June…but…you have to subscribe to my newsletter to get the extra special offer.  It might just be worth it!  I’ll have some new listings going up before the 30th June.

It was so cold here this morning!  I can tell in my fingers if it’s close to zero degrees, it happens when you walk in the morning.  This morning I estimated it was 3 degrees (cold finger test), and when I checked the temperature it was – 3 degrees!  Tomorrow I will be walking with my gloves on I think.  Winter mornings are definitely here.

Today I am finishing off some consignment top-ups, and also getting some new work ready for my website.   I have been putting a lot of thought into my SALA exhibitions, and I’m pleased with where those designs are heading.

The sun is shining.  The sky is blue.  It’s a beautiful day here.  I hope you have a lovely week wherever you are.
