Window Display at T’Arts

Something new from something old.

That is the theme of my window display at T’Arts.  I had a lot of fun setting this up the other day.  It’s on until June 25, so I hope you get a chance to visit.

  • New silk cord necklaces
  • New red jewellery inspired by my 2012 exhibition “10,000 red glass beads”
  • New jewellery from a Banrock Station wine bottle and a Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle
  • New rainbow jewellery made from a necklace that I had in a different exhibition that didn’t sell (I cut up that necklace to make some really sweet necklaces)!
  • Plus, the window is decorated with flowers that I made from a book that our puppy ate!

On my walk this morning…

Good morning!  My morning started really early this morning as I scrambled to finish my last assignment for this semester.  I went to bed with a very fuzzy brain last night, and woke up feeling ready to tackle those final edits.  Phew, I’m glad it’s done now.

Speaking of done – my window display is also set up at T’Arts.  The theme is “Something new from something old” and I’m really pleased with what I have put together!  I hope you get a chance to see it before it comes down on June 25.  I’ll share some photos in a separate post.

On my walk this morning…

This weekend I will be setting up my window display at T’Arts.  The theme is “Something new from something old”, and it’s coming together really nicely (I think)!  I have all sorts of new things from old things.  When I say old “things” I mean –

  1. I have cut up a necklace from an exhibition and made new necklaces and bracelets with the beads, and also made some new beads and jewellery to go with it all.  There is no point crying about work that doesn’t sell during an exhibition.  You can either hold onto it, try to sell it somewhere else, or just cut it up and start again.
  2. I have made a collection of jewellery from a Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle.  There are all sorts of new necklaces, bracelet and earrings to see (along with some old favourite pieces too).  I love making beads from recycled glass, and this is one of my favourites.
  3. I have thought about my favourite exhibition of all times, and it was my “10,000 Red Glass Beads” exhibition that I put together for SALA 2012.  I loved everything about that exhibition, and I wanted to revisit some of my ideas from that, but with a 2016 feel!
  4. I also have some new work!  Yay.  I’ve thought a lot about how much I love playing with colour, and I have made a series of contrasting necklaces.  I won’t reveal too much more, but let’s just say I have had a LOT of fun making these new necklaces.
  5. Oh, then I will be decorating the window with….no, I’m not going to tell you about that just yet.  Let’s just say that our puppy has destroyed a few library books and rather than throwing them out, I have put them to use.

Hope you are having a great week.

On my walk this morning…

So many deadlines.  The following 2 weeks are filled with big projects that have to be finished!

First, I have almost finished another semester at Uni.  2 subjects.  2 assignments and 1 test left to do.  Nearly there….and then it’s a solid 6 weeks until the next semester starts!  I am picturing myself reading some books in that time.

Second, my window display at T’Arts is starting to come together.  The theme is “Something new from something old” and I have to say I am quite liking what I am making. I am looking forward to setting it all up on May 28.

On my walk this morning…

Walk with a difference today.  It was on the treadmill.  My husband is still away, so I am limited in the walks I can do.  The treadmill is nice, it gets the walk ticked off the to-do list, but I have missed my morning walk with my dog to the river and back.

I’m working on my new Colour Play jewellery.  It’s coming together nicely, and will be available for sale in my new online shop on Thursday!

I’m also working on a window display for T’Arts.  That is going to be all about recycling.  Recycling of old glass products, old necklaces, old ideas….I’m excited to see what else pops up before it’s time to set up.

Don’t forget to visit T’Arts while their fundraising window is set up.  All items are $10 or $15 and all proceeds go to the McGrath Foundation.  I have donated 9 pairs of earrings, and I think a few pairs have already sold.

T’Arts – Mother’s Day Fundraising

This year T’Arts (the textile and art collective in Gays Arcade, Adelaide), are raising funds for the McGrath Foundation.

I have donated 9 pairs of flat glass studs for this worthy cause.

Each pair of studs will be priced at $10.  And ALL of the money raised will be donated to the charity.

Lots of the artists have put together all sorts of pieces of art for this event.  The work will be available for sale from  Monday May 2.  Everything is priced at either $10 or $15.  Bargains!

Walk on the Wild Side

I have been getting some new work ready for a Fringe exhibition at Prospect Gallery.  It’s a group exhibition, and most of the artists at T’Arts are involved.  The theme is “Walk on the Wild Side”, and I have made some beads and jewellery that are quite different from what I would normally make.  It’s been fun to think and make outside of my comfort zone!

On my walk this morning…

We’ve had some really hot weather this summer, but in between we’ve also had some perfect sunny days.  It has been hard to work when everyone else in the house is on holidays!  I have really had to push myself to get on the torch.

I am making some new work for a Fringe exhibition at Prospect Gallery.  I have almost finished the first necklace.  I showed the beads I made to some friends on the weekend, and they were very enthusiastic.  I am hoping the finished piece works out.  It will be quite different from what I have made in the past, and should suit the theme of the exhibition “Walk on the Wild Side.”
