Getting it right

I had to buy some black leather to get this custom order just right, but it was worth it!  The customer is very happy with the necklace, and I have some new material to work with and some new ideas.

Why I love making custom orders

I was asked to make a black and white version of this necklace: https://www.etsy.com/listing/152388975/aussiejules-handmade-red-glass-bead?

The request was for it to be on black leather, however I didn’t have any black leather to work with, so I suggested we try it on the light brown leather.  I made 2 different versions of the necklace.

The customer lives in another city, so the only way to show her my work was by photographing it.  When she saw what I had made she knew that she wanted it on black leather!

Now, some people might be disappointed with that, but I was really thrilled.

First, it means I have tried doing something new (yay, new jewellery).  It hasn’t quite worked out, but it has pushed me into getting some new materials to work with (black leather).  I have 2 necklaces ready to go to a shop now.  And I have a happy customer.  It was a great experience.

Window Display at T’Arts (Gays Arcade)

My window display has been set up at T’Arts, located in Gays Arcade (off Adelaide Arcade) in Adelaide.

The theme is “Looking Forward” and the work is a reflection on the jewellery that I made in 2013 that I was really proud of, and some new work to start 2014.

Here are a few photos:

New beads….

I have made some new beads this week, which I will use in some new, simple necklaces ready for the gift-giving season!

Tonight I am watching the final of “The Bachelor” and putting some necklaces together!  Yes, it’s kind of lame to be watching the Bachelor, but I’m also kind of hooked on it.  It’s so removed from what I would EVER do with my life and that makes it really intriguing…why the heck are these people doing this?  WHY?  Sometimes I really don’t want to understand what makes people do what they do.

Getting Ready for “The Rules for Colour are Black and White”

LadyBeadsPrepHave you ever put together an exhibition before?

It’s a LOT of work!  I have been planning this exhibition for a few months now.  Thinking about the big picture, designing the various elements, thinking about what types of beads and jewellery I would like to make.  Trying new things, learning new things.  It’s actually been pretty full on!

And now, it’s one week until the opening and it’s crunch time!  It’s getting down to the wire, and I think I have made all of the beads that I need, but I won’t really be sure until I finish making all of the jewellery!  I’ve made lists of the jewellery that I need to make, I’ve crossed some things off already because it just won’t work!  And I’ve also started ticking things off the list, and that feels really good.

It’s exciting and nerve-wracking.  It makes me feel a little bit sick really.  Have I made enough?  Is it going to be good enough?  Are people going to enjoy what I’ve put together?

Deep breath.
