I did not set out to make these earrings…

…but I’m glad I did!

I had in my mind a slightly more complicated pair of earrings, and when I started putting THEM together it was like “this is all wrong!”  I have to keep in mind that I can be a fairly harsh critic of my work, but I still have to be pleased with what I make.

I also didn’t have a huge amount of time to spend on this project today. And when I’m worried about things like that it kind of helps me to push most of my thoughts out of my head, and just go with a certain type of flow.

This morning I simply said “what if” when I picked up these beads. I did try adding crystals and spacers in between, but decided that simple was best. The brown beads are from a Coopers Ale beer bottle (lightly etched) and the blue bead on top is from a Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle. The bead in between is from a wine bottle decorated with frit (smashed up glass).

And that is a rather long story of how I made a pair of earrings this morning!

Blue Recycled Glass Earrings

I have been enjoying trying new things, tweaking old designs, and coming up with new work as part of my “Year of Recycled Glass Jewellery“.

Today I have used some Banrock Station wine bottle beads, and mixed them with Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle beads. I love how nicely these two colours work together. I also really like the stud earring here, and of course….they are very dangly!

Monochrome Recycled Glass Earrings

I have been having a lot of fun playing with the beads that I made from a Hendricks Gin and Banrock Station bottle. They work together so nicely! I couldn’t resist making a pair of asymmetrical monochrome earrings to add to the collection.

PS It was a bit tricky getting this finished today because it’s actually my daughter’s 9th birthday! Happy Birthday Ciara, hope you had the best birthday ever.

Champagne bottle beads

I have made this pair of earrings with beads made from a Champagne bottle! I love the richness of this colour, and they do look a little bit more sparkly when they are held up to the light, rather than placed on wood to photograph!

Anyway, I have been wearing the gold pixie dust pair that I made earlier this year. I love them so much, they are my current favourite earrings to wear.  I even had a random stranger comment on them the other day “ooh, they are wonderful earrings you are wearing.”  Kind of made my day really…

Enamelled Copper Tube earrings

recycled glass earrings

Last year I fell a little bit in love with the process of enamelling. I took a couple of courses, and experimented a little bit at home. This year I am looking forward to making more pieces of jewellery with enamelled copper components. These earrings seemed like a good place to start. They go quite nicely with the champagne bottle beads, I think…

Oh, these are lovely too!

Yesterday I showed you the earrings with three beads like this.  I have been wearing them ever since I made them, and they are so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing them, and accidentally went swimming in the ocean with mine on today!  I am pleased to report, they survived!

Today I have made a simpler pair of earrings, with only two beads, and a shorter, squarer shape.  The two different colours that I have used to decorate the wine bottle beads make them so pretty.
